Constructa Entreprenør AS has chosen the Liftroller system to transport materials when carrying out a complete renovation of Bergen City Hall. Bergen City Hall is a precious building of national importance, which means transportation routes must be planned carefully in order not to damage the façade.
The building is currently undergoing complete renovation both inside and out. The valuable façade is posing quite a few challenges for inbound and outbound transportation of building materials. The city’s cultural heritage department did not permit the wall below the windows to be cut down to create level access for an external construction lift. The lift therefore had to stop at window height, 90 cm above the floor, something which created difficulties for many of the trades involved.
To ensure flow and efficiency on the project, Constructa opted to use the Liftroller system to move building materials onto each floor. This allowed them to easily transport batches of materials into the building without large construction lifts getting in the way of those working on the façade.
The Liftroller system only involves a landing ramp with rollers through the window. It does not require additional supports at ground level, and it is easy to remove from the window opening if necessary. It does not leave holes or create damage to the façade.
For optimal efficiency, a total of seven Liftroller Wall units were deployed in Bergen City Hall, initially on the upper floors. This allowed materials to be craned onto all seven floors as and when they were delivered. Once work on the upper floors was complete the Liftroller units were moved to the lower floors. This helped with the workflow for both interior and exterior works.
Improved logistics
Liftroller allows multiple trades to use the system to shift their equipment and materials. Constructa also used the Liftroller system as a ramp for removing building waste.
The company optimised logistics by using the same lorry to remove building waste once the materials had been rolled into the building. This enabled them to move large quantities of waste onto the lorry and off the site instead of temporarily storing it in large skips in the narrow city streets.
On this particular project the Liftroller system was used to move objects such as carpets, office walls, glass walls/modules, kitchen units and prefabricated furniture modules. It was also used for general building materials like plasterboard, stud walls, insulation etc.

On-site adjustments
The unique façade of this particular building required certain on-site adjustments to be made by Constructa’s outstanding builders. The sloping façade was “straightened” with mitred woodblocks which were then screwed onto the Liftroller unit. The unit comes with prefabricated holes designed to allow such adjustments to be made on site.
