How much can you save by hiring a Liftroller system?

Are you aware of the actual cost of your building project? Well planned logistics means lower costs, improved efficiency and better flow on the building site. By using the Liftroller system you will make savings in terms of time, cost and health.

Flexible and efficient

The Liftroller system does not require rigging space at ground level and does therefore not come with the same limitations as a construction hoist, say. The Liftroller system can easily be moved when it is needed elsewhere in the building. Short distances between the point of entry and the materials’ final destination saves a lot of time compared to transporting them by hoist up several floors, and thereafter to another part of the building.

The length of the hoist limits the length of what materials that can be transported inside. The Liftroller system does not place any restrictions on the length of the items being transported in. Using Liftroller to move materials and building waste also leaves the hoists in the building free for other uses, which gives a more efficient building site. It also means you can make do with smaller construction hoists for personnel and small items only, thus saving you even more money. Rolls of carpet weighing 500 kg and measuring 5 meters in length pose no problem for the Liftroller system.

Examples

Here are a few examples to highlight the actual cost of handling materials and the savings you can achieve when using Liftroller.

Example #1

3 packs of steel studs, 1 pack of timber and 6 packs of plasterboard destined for the second floor of a shopping centre:

Without Liftroller:
All items carried by hand up the stairs to the second floor.
6 persons for 7.5 hours at NOK 500 per hour = NOK 22,500.

With Liftroller:
All items craned onto the Liftroller system through the window on the second floor and then moved on rollers to the desired destination.
2 people for 3 hours at NOK 500 per hour = NOK 3,000, including time spent assembling and dismantling the Liftroller.

Savings: The time spent moving the materials is significantly reduced when using the Liftroller system instead of carrying. 22,500 – 3,000 = 19,500 excl. VAT.
The project can be completed more quickly as the workers spend more time building than lifting. An added bonus is that the workers will be fit and ready to get on with the carpentry, not feeling tired or demotivated after the heavy lifting.

100 packs of plasterboard destined for the second floor of a hotel undergoing renovation:

About the project: On this project the contractor used a lift for the first deliveries before installing the Liftroller system for the rest. The lift was placed in a street with a steady flow of pedestrians and cars, and there was a steep ramp up to the lift door. The lift could carry 32 plasterboard sheets and 2 people on each trip. A number of other items also had to be shifted in addition to the 100 packs of plasterboard. To keep it simple, we have only included the plasterboard in this calculation.

Without Liftroller:
4 workers at ground level.
4 workers on the upper floor.
2 workers accompany the lift with the plasterboard up and down, meaning that there are always 6 workers in action.
Total of 10 workers in action carrying plasterboard.
32 plasterboard sheets are shifted in 10 minutes by 10 workers.

With Liftroller: 80 sheets are shifted in 10 minutes by 2 workers.
Twice as many sheets in the same period of time with only 1/5 of the workers when using Liftroller.

Converted into cost per sheet, this means NOK 26 per sheet when using a lift and NOK 2 per sheet when using the Liftroller system, based on an hourly rate of NOK 500 per worker. When transporting 100 packs of plasterboard with 40 sheets in each pack this means a saving of NOK 96,000 excl. VAT measured by the number of hours saved. This is equivalent to 192 hours that could be spent fitting the sheets rather than carrying them.

2,800 packs of assorted building materials, including 1,600 packs of plasterboard destined for three different floors on a large conversion project:

About the project: On this project the contractor used a construction lift for the first delivery of materials before installing the Liftroller system for the rest. The lift was installed in a backyard, and the materials therefore had to be wheeled some distance on a trolley from the crane lorry to the lift. The materials then had to be moved further inside the building on the respective floors. This took around 20 minutes for each pack of materials. Three workers per pack of materials were needed due to steep ramps to and from the lift. Several hundred tradespeople were involved, and they often had to wait for the lift to be freed up before they could move their materials. To improve logistics, they installed a Liftroller Wall on each floor which could then be moved anywhere within that floor depending on where the materials were being loaded. This resulted in significant savings:

Without Liftroller: NOK 2,613,333 excl. VAT cost of time spent transporting the materials.
With Liftroller: NOK 322,000 excl. VAT cost of time spent transporting the materials.

Savings: NOK 2,291,333 excl. VAT measured by the number of hours saved.
This is equivalent to 2,520 hours that could be spent fitting the sheets rather than carrying them.
